Mbarara district local government has started construction of 13.03 km road starting from Bwizibwera through Mabira via Kitookye to Rwenshanku in Bubaare sub county that will cost shs 104.5 million under periodic maintenance program.
The road works are funded by the government through Road Maintenance Grant from one billion shillings recently released by the government to improve on road status in Mbarara district.
This was revealed at the launching ceremony presided over by the RDC Mbarara Turyabagyenyi Emmanuel Kateera at Kitookye trading center that was witnessed by the chairperson Mbarara district Tabaro Didus Tumwesigye, the District Engineer Bananuka William and local leadership of Rwanyamahembe town council in Kashari south Mbarara district.
Turyabagyenyi challenged the people where the road will pass to construct structures with attractive enterprises that would entice outside people to come for investments and spend the money and the residents to benefit by selling goods and services plus marketing their produce in better markets as way promoting development.
The Senior District Engineer Mbarara Eng William Bananuka explained that the money to be used on the road was offered by president Museveni of part of One billion shillings that was approved by parliament.
He appealed to all people who will be using the road to apply for jobs where the local residents should take first priority.
The chairperson Mbarara district Tabaro Didus said the road was financed by the district for the abundant banana produced in the area and to ease communication.
He said people are invited at launching ceremonies which they should attend to know what government has done and is going to do for them to avoid rumours.
Tabaro informed the people in the district that as Mbarara district local government has programmed for parish community consultative gatherings BARAZAs to be conducted in every parish to evaluated what government has done and the public to mention their challenges they are facing to improve and ensure quality service delivery.
